A vision needs people who can carry it.

A young leader may know exactly what they want to change for women and girls. Building an organisation that can carry that vision also means deciding how power is shared, how the work is sustained and who can help move it further.

Without support, important work can remain dependent on a few people. Useful approaches may never reach another organisation, and opportunities to act together can be missed. For women and girls, the continuity of work they count on is at stake.

AFWAG’s Her Africa Early Stage Incubator (HAESI) brings leadership practice, organisational resilience, and network and movement building together. Our next step is a six-month cohort of 24 early-stage leaders.

Leadership practice

Leaders examine how they understand themselves, relate to others and navigate the systems around them. This becomes useful in how they make decisions, share responsibility and lead their organisations.

Organisational resilience

AFWAG connects fellows to practical support, including member-portal resources for governance, finance, policies and people management. Leaders have a starting point for clearer roles and more accountable ways of running their organisations.

Network and movement building

Fellows form working relationships with peers in other countries. After graduation, they enter AFWAG’s wider network in 23 countries, where relationships can continue and their work can connect to a larger movement.

“Yes. I have applied lessons from HAESI in Elgon-Sita by intentionally strengthening women’s participation and leadership across the coffee value chain. We have focused on skilling women and young people in coffee production, post-harvest handling, value addition, financial literacy, and market access, while creating more opportunities for women to participate in decisions that affect their work and income.
