Our Levers For Systemic Change (Pan-African Vision)
At AFWAG, we believe that creating lasting gender equity requires a collective effort that draws on the strengths of diverse organisations and leaders across Africa. We partner with these organisations to co-create pathways to success, embracing their unique strengths and contexts. Our approach focuses on:
Leadership Development Initiatives
We work with leaders to support their growth in ways that resonate with their specific experiences and challenges. Leadership development is co-designed to reflect the diverse needs of each individual, empowering them to create the change they envision within their communities.
- Delivering flagship leadership initiatives, including the Her Africa Ubuntu Leadership Fellowship, a six-month program in collaboration with the University of Cambridge tailored for Africa, the Her Africa Early-stage Entrepreneur Incubator (HAESI) for founders under 35 addressing gender-related challenges, and the Her Africa Young Leaders (HAYL) program, a six-month fellowship for girls aged 12-18.
- Â
- We also provide a Senior Team Leadership Program, where we support the senior leadership teams of our partners in undergoing leadership development alongside other senior leadership teams from 3-5 other organisations at a time.
- Â
- Furthermore, we emphasise Leadership at All Levels because we believe everyone is a leader. We work with organisations to ensure this ethos is embodied throughout their structures
Movement Building ( Mushandirapamwe Spirit)
Organisations across Africa are diverse, but they share a common goal: advancing gender equity. We foster collaboration, creating spaces where leaders and organisations can exchange ideas, resources, and support. These networks allow for collective learning and action, strengthening the entire ecosystem.
Facilitate regular peer learning sessions, where leaders share insights, challenges, and best practices, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
Enable joint initiatives and partnerships among network members, allowing them to pool resources and scale their collective impact more effectively.
Unite voices across the network for coordinated advocacy efforts, amplifying the impact on policy and systemic changes that benefit women and girls across the continent.
Organisational Capacity Strengthening
We work collaboratively with gender equity organisations to enhance their operational and strategic capacities. By facilitating knowledge sharing and offering tools for resilience and sustainability, we help organisations build the foundations needed to navigate challenges and grow long-term impact.
