100 Leaders by 2030

Why Ubuntu Giving

Our ambition is to support 100 more early-stage leaders through HAESI by 2030. Help us begin with the next cohort of 24.

Give to HAESI. Help the work take root.

A young leader may know exactly what they want to change for women and girls. Building an organisation that can carry that vision means deciding how power is shared, how the work is sustained and who can help move it further.

Without that support, important work can remain dependent on a few people. Leaders have fewer places to work through difficult decisions. Approaches that could help another organisation may never reach it, and organisations pursuing the same change can miss the chance to act together.

For women and girls, what is at stake is the continuity of work they count on and the opportunity for their priorities to carry more influence. HAESI is designed to help build the leadership, organisational and relational foundations behind that work.

AFWAG’s Her Africa Early Stage Incubator (HAESI) works at that early stage. It brings together leadership practice, organisational resilience, and network and movement building in one journey.

Leadership practice. Leaders examine how they understand themselves, relate to others and navigate the systems around them. That reflection becomes useful in how they make decisions, share responsibility and lead their organisations.

Organisational resilience. Their vision needs systems and practices that can carry it forward. AFWAG connects fellows to practical support, including member-portal resources for governance, financial management, policies and people management. These resources give leaders a starting point for clearer roles, workable policies and more accountable ways of running their organisations.

Network and movement building. Fellows form working relationships with peers in other countries, exchange experience and explore shared action. After graduation, they enter AFWAG’s wider network, currently spanning 23 countries, where those relationships can continue and their work can connect to a larger movement.

Together, these are the conditions AFWAG helps build around a leader’s vision: a deeper practice of leadership, an organisation able to carry the work and relationships that can take it further.

One graduate of HAESI’s first cohort returned to help facilitate leadership and communication sessions for the second. Her experience became useful to another group of leaders. This is one example of what can continue when relationships and knowledge have somewhere to go after graduation.

Your contribution supports this work through HAESI. Our immediate goal is to bring 24 early-stage leaders into the next six-month cohort as they build organisations for women and girls.

$10 | Help a leader face a difficult decision with support. Contribute to HAESI spaces where leaders can examine a real challenge, draw on another perspective and decide how to move their work forward.

$50 | Help more people carry the vision. Contribute to the organisational support that helps leaders build clearer roles, practical systems and shared responsibility, so the work can draw on more than one person.

$250 | Help the work grow through lasting connections. Contribute to cross-border peer relationships and a pathway into AFWAG’s wider network, where leaders can share useful approaches and continue working with others after graduation.

These examples show the work your gift contributes to. Donations are combined to support HAESI; individual amounts are not the full cost of these activities.

Our goal is to raise US$100,000 to support 100 more early-stage leaders through HAESI by 2030, helping them deepen their leadership practice, build resilient organisations and connect their work to a wider movement for women and girls.

“I have applied lessons from HAESI in Elgon-Sita by intentionally strengthening women’s participation and leadership across the coffee value chain. We have focused on skilling women and young people in coffee production, post-harvest handling, value addition, financial literacy, and market access, while creating more opportunities for women to participate in decisions that affect their work and income. This has helped us move beyond seeing women only as labourers to recognising them as producers, business actors, and decision-makers. We have also seen increased confidence among women to engage in coffee-related businesses, access markets, and take leadership roles within their groups.”
